Hola gente, just reporting back to discuss the GOP Senate primary race here in Florida, which looks to be heating up.Apparently last week was the deadline for the fundraising quarter. La verdad que I really don't keep up with the fundraising aspect of politics, because I'm not a money man. Pero it seems that a lot of opportunistic, philosophically disloyal participants in the political process look at the amount of money one candidate has raised over the other and that makes them decide who to support and give money to.
Of course, Carlitos Crist is going to win that battle against Marco Rubio. After all, Crist is a sitting governor who has the power of his office to continue to influence policy for almost the next two years. Every vulture who has to do business with the state or have laws signed or vetoed by Crist and want to be on his good side will probably contribute to his campaign. That gives Crist a huge, unfair, and possibly even unethical advantage over Rubio.
Another fundraising advantage Crist enjoys, as we previously wrote, is the full support of the idiots running the RINOPF (my nickname for the once-great Florida Republican Party now that Jim Greer destroyed it at the behest of Crist) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which out of consistency we will henceforth refer to as the NRINOSC.
As we at Versailles Beat long predicted and expected, today we can add another two names to that long list of Crist RINO supporters. The Diaz-Balart brothers endorsed Charlie Crist for US Senate against a fellow Cuban-American and true conservative Marco Rubio.
The Diaz-Balarts have disappointed us time and time again, and aside from their pattern of endorsing RINOs over real Republicans, this latest endorsement came as no surprise to us for a few reasons.
First, Crist and Mario Diaz-Balart both served together back when Mario, despite having earned no college degree, was elected to the Florida Senate on his father and older brother's name. Crist and he have remained friends and political allies ever since.
Secondly, failed Miami-Dade Republican Party chairman candidate and one of Versailles Beat's most popular targets, Carlos Curbelo, continues to tie the Diaz-Balarts to Charlie Crist.
The arab-looking Carlos Curbelo started in politcs through the Diaz-Balart machine. He fundraises for them, runs their campaigns, and is their attack dog and confidante. As we reported here a few months ago, Jim Greer hired Curbelo to run the RINOPF's hispanic outreach. We exposed that as nothing more than an effort by Jim Greer and his RINOPF lapdogs to steer Hispanic Republican support away from Rubio to Crist. Porque? Because Carlos Curbelo is a solid Crist loyalist who ran the Crist campaign in 2006 here in Miami. He ran the McCain campaign last year, and was one of the countless Crist stooges who sat on his hands after Crist was passed up for Sara Palin. To his credit, Curbelo has decent political instincts and has carved himself a nitch among the Cuban viejos by maintaining good relationships with personalities on Cuban radio, which is a political force to be reckoned with down here.
Of course the idea was that he would go on those radio shows and political events to tacitly promote Crist to the overwhelmingly Republican Cuban viejos to steer support away from Rubio. Listeners and and radio hosts would perceive him to be "official," legitimized by his title as RINOPF Hispanic Outreach Director.
Our sources have indicated that Curbelo has had ambitions to run for office for years. 2010 will be an unusually active political year here in Miami with the opening of several seats in the House and Senate, not to mention the statewide races. Our sources have told us that he was after the seat being vacated by State Representative Anitere Flores in her bid for State Senate. Unfortunately for Curbelo, however, current school board member and jeva Ana Rivas Logan has also indicated an interest in that seat, which would no doubt spell defeat for Curbelo should he try his luck against the very attractive and well-known Rivas-Logan. Therefore, we at Versailles Beat predict that if Rivas-Logan resigns to run for the Legislature, Crist will appoint Curbelo to fill the vacancy on the school board.
But back to the US Senate Race.
It seems our other Republican congresista Ileana Ros-Lehtinen may not jump on the Crist bandwagon as easily. First of all, she endorsed Crist's primary opponent Tom Gallagher in 2006, and since then has never really publicly expressed much affection for Crist, Greer, or the RINOs that feed off them. Also, her husband Dexter Lehtinen is very publicly supporting Rubio. I could not imagine them being on opposite sides in this race, so we at Versailles Beat hope it is only a matter of time before she publicly endorses Rubio. If she remains neutral or otherwise fails to endorse Rubio, we would consider it an act of cowardice. Let's hope she is the courageous "loba feroz" that we have always admired her to be.
Despite the list of RINOs stacking up behind Crist and the money they are generating for him, Rubio appears to be doing well according to recent polls. He is also traveling all over the state with his positive message of patriotism, conservatism, and liberty. The more Republicans hear him and contrast his message against the do-nothing RINO politician Crist, the more they will support him. I've attached a video clip of a tea party that Rubio spoke at this past 4th of July, which begs the question, where was Crist this 4th of July? Why has he not made an appearance at any Tea Party? Why? Because they'll boo him off the stage for the Obama-loving RINO that he is.
